HTC announced last Friday that it sold its shares on Beats, the manufacturer of the famous Beats By Dre headphones. Beats indeed recovered from the residual 24.84% of its capital owned by HTC for some 265 million . The withdrawal had already begun in summer 2012 as HTC had already sold 25% of its stake Dre & Co.
In August, the Wall Street Journa already revealed the intention to redeem Units Beats held by HTC. Several reasons were then considered. On the one hand, the company co-founded by Dr. Dre seemed to make a strategic shift. This requires a diversification of its offerings with the launch of audio speakers and the acquisition of the platform audio music streaming to provide additional services to users of helmets. On the other hand, HTC no longer records the same results as in 2011, when the company’s market share exceeded 10%. Instead, the Taiwanese brand has even stalled since late 2011. This is no longer a profitable investment for the brand, which may on the contrary, not the sale of its stake in Beats, bring a little life to its cash.
HTC had bought 50.1% of Beats to integrate technology headsets to its phones. The HTC Sensation XE and XL and had a special compatibility with helmets or headsets manufactured by Dr. Dre brand. If the partnership offered the HTC models can activate the “Beats” mode which gave a slightly higher quality sound for treble and bass, it was primarily a “marketing coup” to differentiate themselves from the competition . When HTC had lost some capital Beats in 2012, the two brands have reduced their commercial partnership offers minimal blows simple certifications Beats Audio.
