HTC returned to profit in 4Q - Le Figaro

Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC has returned to profit in the fourth quarter of 2013 after having, for the first time since 2002, suffered a loss in the previous quarter, he announced today.

The Group recorded a net profit of 310 million Taiwan dollars ($ 10.3 million) in the fourth quarter. Its net operating loss is however high 1.56 billion Taiwan dollars. The group said it had received unrelated to its core business revenue, without specifying which.

According to analysts, it is the proceeds of the sale of its stake in September to 24.84% within the American manufacturer stereo headphones Beats Electronics LLC for $ 265 million. HTC posted a loss of nearly 3 billion Taiwan dollars in the third quarter, as he tries to resist his American competitors Apple and South Korea’s Samsung.

HTC notably launched in October 2013 Beijing smartphone “One Max” to try to develop its presence in the Chinese market where users prefer the widescreen.
