  • Nokia fact ban some HTC smartphones in Germany!

By Christophe Renard December 23, 2013

Patents are often subject to legal conflicts, so now that Samsung and Apple are a little calmer about it, it’s the turn of Nokia and HTC to enter this macabre dance that may well end badly for one of them.

All this for a history of managements USB on mobile ! In fact, when you connect the device to the computer, then the Windows desktop automatically recognize the device and to do various manipulations on it, such as transfer files, use the smartphone as a modem, and many other things. All these activities, for those who do not know, require the use of drivers. And that is just what is discussed in this patent battle.

In a previous trial in the UK, Nokia had already succeeded in making ban the sale of HTC Mini One on the Anglo-Saxon soil. And the matter will not end well, because not content with this victory, the Finnish attack Taiwan now on German soil, and is poised to make a real knockout. German judges would be likely to effect complete ban on HTC Smartphones on German territory. And that would be a real financial disaster for the latter.

However, Nokia has not won on all fronts, as the German courts would still have made a finding of non-infringement on the flagship HTC One line allowing it to continue to sell its products Premium … at least during the holidays, and forcing the Finnish to pay 40% of the legal costs.

What is now a real danger is that Nokia, not satisfied with his victory, wants to go further by making prohibit other brands on the same principle and in other countries . However, we all look forward that Google gets involved fiddled with his patent to save the weakest. To be continued!
