To talk about it and to dismantle the power of the Snapdragon processor, Qualcomm has decided to create a bullet time effect from 130 HTC One smartphones.

Before anything else, let us on the concept of ‘bullet time’. This is a visual effect that became popular in recent years and whose example most often cited is the movie Matrix, we also often speaks of ‘the Matrix effect. Visually, the bullet time gives the impression of turning around an object / a character frozen in time. This can help to change the point of view or to an item on break for showcase during an action scene. Technically, the bullet time is based on many cameras distributed around the subject. When M, all devices will take a snapshot and making the scroll, it gives the impression of turning around the subject.

The process is regularly used in films or advertisements. But Qualcomm decided original to create a little buzz: she decided to use only HTC One smartphones to create a bullet time effect. Usually, these are cameras more ‘classic’ are used. It is spread over 130 phones a downward metal structure covering 540 °. It was the impression down while turning around the subjects. The scenes captured in bullet time were transformed into animated GIFs that can be found on the website of Snapdragon.

Sure, the experience was ultimately very little to do with the processor but the video created a buzz and that’s really what the company sought. Nearly 3 million views in less than three days, it is a rather nice score. I bet that the programming of devices and the setting of each phone (brightness varies depending on the angle) was a sacred work. A nice stunt for Qualcomm so. I’ll let you see the video, the site with the GIF is shown below.
